5000L Batch Prepolymerization Reactor for Emulsion Polymerization

We build this 5000-liter reactor for emulsion polymerization processes that require a prepolymerization step. The vessel is designed for batch operation, giving you control over reaction staging, temperature ramps, and residence time. It suits production lines where monomer conversion needs to be managed carefully before the main polymerization stage.

The reactor body is fabricated from stainless steel, typically 304 or 316L, depending on your monomer chemistry and corrosion requirements. We use full-penetration welding and passivate the interior to reduce contamination risks. Internal surfaces are electropolished to a Ra of 0.4–0.8 µm, which helps with cleaning and prevents polymer buildup.

Heating and cooling are handled through a jacket or half-pipe coil system. You can specify thermal fluid, steam, or chilled water as the medium. The design pressure and temperature are matched to your process – we don\’t guess these numbers. The agitator is selected based on viscosity and mixing intensity. For emulsion systems, a pitched-blade or anchor impeller with a high shear option is common.

Sealing is critical. We offer mechanical seals or magnetic drives, depending on whether you need to avoid leaks of volatile monomers. The reactor can be configured for vacuum or pressure operation up to your specified limits.

This reactor is used in production of acrylic emulsions, vinyl acetate copolymers, styrene-acrylic dispersions, and similar water-based polymers. The prepolymerization step allows seed particle formation and controlled particle size distribution.

For cleaning, we provide spray balls or CIP nozzles on request. The bottom outlet is either flush or with a valve suited for high-solids slurries.
