10,000L SUS304 Horizontal Water Storage Tank for Industrial Water Treatment

We fabricate this 10,000-liter horizontal storage tank in our workshop using SUS304 stainless steel sheets. The tank is built for water treatment systems where the liquid is not highly corrosive, but still requires a clean, weldable surface that can be sanitized. Horizontal orientation keeps the overall height low, which suits facilities with limited ceiling clearance or where the tank needs to sit on a simple stand.

The shell is rolled from 4mm SUS304 plate, with full penetration TIG welding on all longitudinal and circumferential seams. After welding, the interior is pickled and passivated to restore the chromium oxide layer. For most water treatment applications, we finish the internal surface to a 2B or No.4 polish, which gives a smooth enough finish to prevent bacterial buildup without going into mirror-grade territory that adds cost. The exterior gets a brushed finish, which hides shop floor scratches better than a mirror finish.

We install a standard manhole on top for access, along with inlet, outlet, vent, and drain connections sized to your piping. The tank is designed for atmospheric pressure only – if you need vacuum or pressure rating, that requires a different wall thickness and head design, so we’ll need to know that upfront. We can add level indicators, temperature probes, or a simple spray ball for cleaning, but these are options, not standard.

SUS304 is the right choice for neutral water, drinking water, or mild chemical solutions. If you’re storing brine, acidic cleaning agents, or anything with chloride content above a few hundred ppm, you’ll want SUS316L instead. We can switch the material, but the price changes accordingly. We also need to know your working temperature – above 60°C, thermal expansion affects the welds and gaskets, so we may need to adjust the design.

This tank has been used in municipal water treatment, food processing washdown systems, and industrial cooling water loops. It’s not suitable for agitated mixing or for holding liquids with high solids content – that would require a different bottom shape and possibly a mixer mounting platform.

No. SUS304 will pit in chloride environments. Use a plastic-lined or rubber-lined tank for that service.
