Hydrolysis and enzymatic processing place specific demands on a reactor vessel. The tank must handle moderate heat, resist chemical attack from acidic or alkaline feedstocks, and allow thorough mixing without damaging shear-sensitive enzymes. Our 500L and 1000L stainless steel hydrolysis reactor tanks are built with those process conditions in mind.
We fabricate these vessels from SS304 or SS316L, depending on the chloride content and pH of your process stream. For most enzymatic hydrolysis work, SS316L offers better resistance to mild acid conditions and saline environments. The inner shell is polished to a 0.4–0.8 μm Ra finish, which keeps the surface cleanable and reduces the risk of bacterial harborage between batches. Welds are fully penetrated and ground smooth, with no crevices where product can accumulate.
The tank is designed as a jacketed vessel. You can specify electric heating, steam heating, or thermal oil circulation, and the jacket is arranged to provide even heat distribution across the cylindrical section. Cooling options include a spiral jacket or internal coil, depending on whether you need rapid temperature drops after the hydrolysis step. A PTFE or silicone mechanical seal is fitted to the top entry agitator, and we can supply a fully sanitary tri-clamp connection arrangement if your process requires it.
Agitation is matched to the application. For enzymatic hydrolysis, a high-shear impeller can denature the enzyme; we typically recommend a pitched-blade turbine or anchor agitator with a speed range that provides good bulk mixing at low to moderate shear. If your process involves suspended solids, we can add a bottom entry or side entry impeller to keep particles in suspension.
