Jacketed Mixing for Soap, Shampoo, and Detergent Batches
Liquid soap and shampoo batches can change substantially in viscosity during processing. A tank sized only by volume may leave slow-moving product near the wall or create excessive air entrainment. We configure this jacketed vessel around the batch size, ingredient sequence, target viscosity, and required mixing time. The arrangement can support heating or cooling through the jacket, while the mixing system is selected for the product rather than specified by tank capacity alone.
Construction and process configuration
Product-contact surfaces are commonly specified in 304 stainless steel; 316L may be appropriate when the formula, cleaning chemistry, or chloride exposure calls for added corrosion resistance. Final grade selection should follow a review of the actual ingredients and cleaning procedure. Welds in product-contact areas are finished to suit cleanability requirements, with polishing level and surface-finish acceptance agreed during design. Jacket construction, drain geometry, manway access, and internal fittings also affect fabrication and cleaning.
The jacket can be configured for a compatible heating or cooling medium. Required heat-transfer area and control arrangement depend on batch volume, starting and target temperatures, heating time, and utility conditions. A temperature sensor location should reflect the mixing pattern; a reading near a stagnant wall zone may not represent the batch.
Motor and gearbox selection depends on viscosity, working volume, impeller type, and operating speed. Anchor or sweep agitators help move viscous product along the vessel wall; a propeller or other axial-flow impeller may suit lower-viscosity liquids. If faster dispersion or particle-size reduction is required, a high-shear homogenizer can be assessed as a separate or integrated option. Seal type and shaft arrangement should be matched to product compatibility, cleaning method, and operating conditions.
