Construction and process choices
Product-contact parts are commonly specified in stainless steel such as 304 or 316L, subject to ingredient compatibility, cleaning chemicals, and sanitation requirements. Weld finish, internal polishing, drainability, and surface roughness should be agreed in the purchase specification; a grade designation alone does not define cleanability. Seals are selected for the formula, operating temperature, and cleaning method. We also confirm whether the vessel needs a jacket, insulation, a dished bottom, or a particular discharge arrangement.
Heating may be unnecessary for a cold-mix process. Where warming is needed to aid dissolution or manage viscosity, the heating method and temperature-control range depend on batch size, heat-sensitive ingredients, and available utilities. Motor and gearbox sizing follows the working volume, viscosity profile, mixing time, and required circulation. A wall scraper may help with viscous batches or jacketed vessels; an in-line or bottom homogenizer may suit other dispersion duties. These choices involve tradeoffs in shear, foam formation, cleaning access, and maintenance.
