Half-Pipe Coil Reactor for Resin and Chemical Processes

When a reaction needs both reliable heating and cooling in the same vessel, the configuration matters as much as the steel. This reactor combines a half-pipe jacket welded to the shell with an internal coil, giving you two independent heat transfer zones. That setup is particularly useful for resin production, where you often need fast升温 during the cook phase and then controlled cooling before discharge.

We build these vessels from 304 or 316L stainless steel, depending on your media. For resin work, 316L is common because of its resistance to organic acids and caustic washdowns. The half-pipe jacket is dimpled or channel-welded, not just tacked, so it handles higher thermal fluid pressure without fatigue. Internal coils are polished to a 0.4 Ra finish to minimize fouling and make cleaning between batches straightforward.

Agitation is matched to your viscosity. For thin chemical solutions, a standard pitched-blade turbine works. For resin that thickens as the reaction proceeds, we fit anchor or helical ribbon agitators with variable-speed drives. Shaft seals range from simple packing to double mechanical seals with a flush plan, depending on whether you run vacuum or positive pressure.

We also pay attention to the details that cause downtime later: flanged nozzles for easy instrument access, a manway sized for your cleaning crew, and legs or skirts that suit your floor layout. The outer surface can be brushed, mirror-polished, or left mill finish—your call.

FAQ

Can I use this for both heating and cooling simultaneously? Yes, the half-pipe jacket and internal coil can be run independently, so one zone can heat while the other cools, or both can use the same service.

How do I choose between the jacket and the coil for primary heat transfer? For high-viscosity materials, the coil provides better internal heat transfer near the agitator, while the jacket heats the wall zone. Most resin processes use the jacket for heating and the coil for cooling.

What about cleaning between batches? The internal coil adds surface area that needs cleaning. We recommend CIP spray balls and a polished coil surface to reduce residue buildup.

Can you build this to ASME or PED standards? We can fabricate to various codes, but you must specify which one your project requires at the inquiry stage.
