Process-focused mixing for viscous liquid products
Shampoo, lotion, cream, and liquid detergent batches place different demands on a mixing system. A cream may need controlled shear to disperse oils and thickeners, while a detergent can trap air or foam if the agitation is too aggressive. We configure the vessel, agitator, and homogenizing arrangement around the formula, batch size, and required batch time rather than assuming one rotor setup will suit every product.
Homogenization can help reduce particle or droplet size and improve dispersion, but it does not replace proper ingredient addition or formula development. The homogenizer may be installed in the vessel or arranged in an external circulation loop. The right choice depends on viscosity, solids, shear sensitivity, and how the batch is charged and discharged.
Construction and drive configuration
Product-contact parts are commonly specified in 304 or 316L stainless steel after reviewing chemical compatibility and cleaning requirements. Weld details, internal corners, and drainability matter in production: crevices can retain product, especially in sticky creams and surfactant blends. Internal polishing level, weld finishing, and passivation or electropolishing should be agreed in the specification. Seal material and shaft-seal design also depend on ingredients, temperature, cleaning chemicals, and operating conditions.
Agitator selection is tied to flow pattern and viscosity. Anchor or wall-scraping arrangements may suit thick products; propeller or other axial-flow impellers can support circulation in lower-viscosity batches. A variable-speed motor and compatible gearbox can help manage startup torque and recipe changes. If heating is needed, jacket or other heating arrangements and temperature-control strategy are selected for the vessel, product, and utility conditions. Heating method, control accuracy, and cooling needs must be confirmed during design.
