Process tank for heated liquid formulations

This double-jacket homogenizing tank is intended for batch production of products such as shampoo, toilet cleaners, liquid detergents, and liquid soap. The jacket can be configured for a suitable heating or cooling medium, while the homogenizing system helps disperse ingredients that need more shear than a conventional sweep agitator can provide. The required mixing arrangement depends on viscosity, batch size, powder addition, and the finished product’s sensitivity to aeration.

In production, the agitator and homogenizer serve different purposes. A sweep or anchor agitator can move bulk material and help limit temperature differences near the vessel wall. A high-shear head can support emulsification or dispersion, but it may introduce heat and entrain air if run too aggressively. We size the drive and select the impeller around the formulation and operating sequence rather than assuming one configuration suits every detergent or shampoo.

Construction and configuration

Product-contact parts are commonly specified in stainless steel, with the grade selected according to formulation chemistry, cleaning agents, and plant requirements. Stainless steel 304 or 316L may be considered, but compatibility should be confirmed against the actual ingredients and cleaning process. Weld finish, internal polish, drainability, and gasket material matter where residue, fragrance carryover, or frequent product changeovers are concerns. Jacket design and pressure requirements must be established for the selected heating medium and applicable site standards.

Heating may use hot water, steam, or another engineered medium, subject to the vessel design. Temperature control can be configured to suit the process, but response depends on batch volume, jacket area, viscosity, and heat-transfer conditions. Motor, reducer, seal arrangement, and controls are also specified for the required duty and installation environment.
